A newly-formed, local jazz combo infused with the sounds of New Orleans will welcome guests to the Svetlana and the Delancey Five concert at the newly-renovated Woodward Opera House on October 5.
Fat Tuesday will perform on the Promenade level of the Woodward Building beginning at 6:00 p.m for patrons as they arrive to attend New York-based jazz singer Svetlana’s 8:00 p.m. concert upstairs in the Woodward Opera House on Saturday, October 5. Fat Tuesday, made up of members Ted Buehrer on trumpet, Eric Snyder on tenor and soprano saxophones, Andrew Clarkson, Jr. on guitar, Andrew Clarkson, Sr. on bass, and Skip Trask on drums, will help get audience members in a swinging mood as they pass through the promenade to the performance hall upstairs.
Fittingly enough, the local combo got their start with a performance on Mardi Gras at a local pizza restaurant this past March. Since then, they have been featured at other local establishments, they appeared on the Summertime concert dedicated to Richard Cochran at the Memorial Theater in July, and they performed on the concert series at Gambier’s Quarry Chapel in August.
“Fat Tuesday draws on New Orleans jazz and funk, but we all enjoy playing a wide range of jazz styles,” said Buehrer, who founded the Knox Community Jazz Orchestra in 2017 and is a professor of music at Kenyon College. “We are eager to share our music with the community, and hope the local connection might help attract more jazz lovers to Svetlana’s concert, which I’m sure is going to be spectacular.”
Svetlana is a critically acclaimed “outstanding” (Wall Street Journal) vocalist from New York and a leader of the New York based swing band, The Delancey Five (“NYC Darlings” Time Out). Svetlana’s shows transport the audiences to the carnival of sound, seamlessly moving from sophisticated and sultry retrospection to a rowdy joyous dance party. “Breakfast at Tiffany’s meets Some Like it Hot” (Lucid Culture) Svetlana and her band have headlined sold out shows in the premier venues and festivals across the US and internationally (Tel Aviv Blues Festival, Italian Villas and Jazz Festival, Blue Note Jazz Festival – as well as the Blue Note, BBKings Blues Club, Iridium Jazz Club, Joe’s Pub, Boston’s Regatta Bar, many Performance Arts Theaters and Festivals around the US).
