DANVILLE

In the eastern portion of Knox County, 15 miles from Mount Vernon the village of 1,001 was originally founded in 1813. The present site of the village is comprised of three villages founded during the 19th century - Danville, Buckeye City, and Rossville. These villages finally merged in 1923 to form the current boundaries. Danville was named for Daniel Sapp, a veteran of the War of 1812.

The village is located on U.S. 62 and is served by five Protestant and one Catholic church - St. Luke's, the second oldest catholic congregation in Ohio founded in 1820. The village also has a branch of the Mount Vernon-Knox County Library, two banks, numerous retail stores and a progressive school system. The community has several small industries, many farm operations and related businesses and one of the state's largest turkey hatcheries.
