    We are currently looking to fill the position of Marketing & Communications Specialist based at our Headquarters Office in Newark, OH. This exempt position works under the direction of the Marketing and Communications Manager to ensure the Cooperative’s marketing, public relations, communication, and social media objectives are met. Performs a variety of functions for the department including Associated Press (AP) style writing, social media content development, video development, photography, and assists with website design and development.

    Nature and Scope of Position (Essential Duties and Responsibilities):

    • Support and incorporate the Cooperative’s Mission, Vision and Values in personal and professional behavior and decisions.
    • Comply with Cooperative policies, procedures, goals and objectives and meet attendance and punctuality guidelines.
    • Understand, observe and enforce cooperative safety and security procedures and report potentially unsafe conditions to manager and/or safety department personnel.
    • Develop content for a variety of mediums including, but not limited to, bi-monthly magazine, social media pages, Cooperative website, annual reports, employee message boards, bill stuffers, and brochures.
    • Track, analyze and report data analytics for marketing and communications efforts, specifically the cooperative website and social media pages.
    • Promote and represent a positive image for the cooperative by participating in community activities and attending local events for the cooperative, as needed.
    • Responsible for cooperative photography, photo editing, video production, and other related activities.
    • Support cooperative branding efforts, communicating in a unified, voice and tone.
    • Assist in the design and development of Cooperative website and ensure content is accurate, functional, and organized to create a positive user experience for members.
    • Promote and support member engagement efforts through cooperative events, digital media, community involvement and more.
    • Work with Marketing and Communications Manager to develop and maintain targeted member communications (direct mail and email).
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities necessary.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    • Experience and Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field and a minimum of three years related experience. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in writing, editing, technology, digital media, photography, and graphic design. Skilled in Adobe Creative Suite, proficient in Microsoft Office, experience with website administration and WordPress. Must have a working knowledge of public relations, event planning, and a variety of effective communication methods in addition to knowledge of the Cooperative’s philosophy and objectives. Must keep up with current issues facing the utility industry and their impact on the cooperative, its members, and its communities.
    • Certificates, Licenses and Training: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and have the ability to travel anywhere in the Cooperative’s territory, as well as attend meetings, seminars, community events and other similar activities outside of the office. Certified Cooperative Communicator designation highly desired. 
    • Language and Interpersonal Skills: Must possess excellent communications skills and treat others in a courteous and professional manner at all time. Is a good listener and actively engages in conversations in order to clearly understand others’ message and intent.  Is easy to approach and talk to and spends the extra effort to put others at ease.  Utilizes proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, in all forms of communication.  Demonstrated effective public speaking skills and creative written communications addressed to different groups of customers, associations and the general public.
    • Other Skills and Abilities: Performs well under stress, when confronted with emergency, critical, or unusual situations. Meets deadlines and works effectively with minimal supervision.  Displays high standards of ethical conduct and is widely trusted and viewed as a direct and truthful person. Maintains sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality.  Effectively solves problems and has a realistic vision of the end result.  Can handle multiple tasks with ease and maintains organization in work area and work flow process.  Willingness to learn new skills.
